WORLDWIDE YOGA ALLIANCE

Credentialing

Credentialing

We provide credentialing to Yoga professionals. As a worldwide registry of well-trained Yoga Teachers and Therapists, the main goal  of Worldwide Yoga Alliance is to ensure that Yoga schools and Yoga Therapy Schools registered with us impart adequate training to yoga teachers, enabling them to teach and practice safely and competently. Worldwide Yoga Alliance advises a set of internationally acceptable educational standards to yoga schools that specify training hours in certain relevant categories.

We follow the credentialing system based on hours of study. Yoga schools registering with us must submit their training syllabus and agree to maintain a curriculum that meets WWYA Standards. Yoga teachers who complete a RWS (Registered WWYA Yoga School) teacher training are generally eligible to apply to register as a RWT (Registered WWYA Yoga Teacher).

Yoga teachers or teacher training programs must register with WWYA and renew annually to maintain any desired designation, to be enlisted in our public Directory and to make use of our member benefits and services.

WWYA Standards

WWYA Standards Committee, a group of experts in the field of Yoga, sets and reviews WWYA Standards to ensure safe and competent teaching and practice of Yoga and related fields.

There are two sub-committees:

  1. WWYA Standards Committee for Yoga, a group of experts in the field of Yoga, sets and reviews WWYA Standards for Yoga to ensure safe and competent Yoga teaching and practice. These standards are in accordance with internationally acceptable standards of Yoga education.
  2. WWYA Standards Committee for Yoga Therapy, a group of experts in the field of Yoga Therapy, sets and reviews WWYA Standards for Yoga Therapy to ensure safe and competent Yoga Therapy teaching and practice. These standards are in accordance with internationally acceptable standards of Yoga Therapy education.

WWYA Standards are based on three main criteria:

  • Curriculum based on Relevant Educational Categories: The training requirements in each educational category ensure trainees acquire knowledge and skills necessary for safe teaching and practice of Yoga and/ or Yoga Therapy.
  • Contact Hours: The Contact Hours offer the benefit of learning from a Yoga Teacher/ Therapist who has extensively applied that knowledge personally before instructing others.
  • Faculty Requirements: Standards for Faculty ensure that the Trainers possess adequate skills to impart training at the desired level.
